The Freebie centers on Darren (Shepard) and Annie (Aselton), a young married couple with an enviable relationship built on love trust and communication. 突兀的精致，无时无刻不在提示着摄影、布景均是包装，虚假的电影感——除却后电影还留下什么？无非是一堆看似高级的零部件机械、生硬地运作着，一种美名为“艺术”的non-cinema：的确是艺术性的，但却是电影亟须破除的症候。

戏剧总有一种魔力，会把电影拽入平庸的深渊。科恩找到了表现主义这把钥匙，打开了那扇联通两个世界的门。我看完震撼得只想问：“科恩，兄dei！考虑把莎士比亚都拍一遍嘛？”
不用再改编麦克白了吧，《蜘蛛巢城》之后，不管后来的导演们选择什么样的风格，什么样的改编切入点，在这座大山面前，都显得没多大意思了。对于这版极简舞台剧的风格，打光是最大亮点，也是它在电影化上最成功的地方。

A24外观下是对茂瑙、斯约斯特罗姆、德莱叶默片时代的回归，但没必要。
令人惊讶的是这部电影里最拉胯的竟然是丹泽尔华盛顿。他的台词让我觉得他是从《冲出康普顿》过来的。
2021版麦克白(不想数之前有多少版了)，值得一说的大概是这算是科恩兄弟分家之后 科恩哥哥的单飞之作？另外就是极简主义的舞台剧式布景和极佳的黑白摄影，以及值得称道的男女主角的表演。Period.
