The story appears simple on the surface, but is revealed, especially after multiple viewings, as more multi-layered and textured than Cassavetes at his best. Ostensibly it concerns a 14-year old Catholic girl, Wynne (Agutter) growing up in this post-modern wasteland, who develops a crush on her much older adoptive brother (Marshall)- a crush which perversely deepens and grows into infatuation once she starts to believe he is the local sex killer. This is in itself an idea that makes you sit up and jolt, but as the narrative develops, it continues not necessarily along a linear path but in several confusing and fascinating directions: the family's history, (detailed effectively in chilling flashback during an improvised seance) is a chequered one, and has suffered at least one major relocation and upheaval in the last ten years. At the crux, however, it's the depiction of socialal changes that make I Start Counting so fascinating and elevate its language far beyond the confines of the standard horror film. The major subtext- that teenage girls were maturing more quickly than before, and developing full sexual and romantic appetites (even if in thought rather than deed) but were not possessed of enough discretion to make the right choices- was a step forward for a genre in which its young females had previously been portrayed as bimbo victims (Cover Girl Killer and The Night Caller spring to mind), but not one that all viewers would necessarily agree with. But most striking of all, and possibly the most enduring image which the viewer will take away with them, is of the masterful symbolism with which director Greene invests every shot. Every inch of the Kinch family's world- their house, their walls, their TV, Agutters underwear, bedroom furniture and toys, Sutcliffe's clothes, Marshalls van, the local Catholic church, their town centre, their record shop) - is painted a bright, scintillating white- a white which, by inference, is slowly becoming smudged and corrupted with the dirt of the outside world. White also symbolises, of course, purity and innocence (two qualities Catholic schoolgirls are supposed to hold dear), and it is into this world of innocence that the ever-present red bus (a symbol of violation and penetration), conducted by the lecherous yet similarly juvenile Simon Ward, makes regular journeys. The allegory is further expanded in one scene where Agutter believes she sees the Christ figure in church weeping blood: by the time we acknowledge it, its gone, but the seed has already been planted. Rarely in a genre production has the use of colour and background been so important or effective in creating a uniformity of mood. I Start Counting is as near-perfect an end to a decade as one could hope for, and exactly the kind of film people should be making now- which is, of course, exactly why they never will. 不解为何选用表演过度”科班”味儿的女主，一张口就穿越到亲情调解类节目，画风和老演员完全不在一个次元内。导演把太多功夫都花在剧本织毛衣和无用的超现实转场上了，医院走廊、学校等单场景的调度也格外笨拙，以至于对老年阿兹海默、叶落归根这类悲切而有分量的话题，根本挖不出什么内容。
6/10。从剧作跟拍摄手法上来看，导演还是很有想法的，而且还是处女作，值得赞赏。缺点则在于演员的表演，以及不同片段之间的衔接可以做得更好，尤其是超现实的部分，这是亮点，但也容易被放大成为缺点。
后半部分比前半部分处理的好，也舒服很多，虽有不足，但依旧是大陆华语电影需要的新力量，是可以被更多人看到的影像内容。

#PYIFF#6分半吧，通俗易懂，感情充沛，叙事完整，这是及格6分，导演有一定的想法，从镜头调度和超现实情节的表现可以看出来，而且是处女作，可以加个1分，但是整体表现还是过于平均，想说的太多，以女儿为叙事主线，反而分散了重点，让人不痛不痒，扣除半分！加油吧！

割裂感。老年演员和中青年演员表演的割裂、顺畅的长镜头和做作的台词/频频响起的配乐的割裂、结尾恐怖类型片的拍摄手法和现实主义定位的割裂。最有趣的，反而是映后见面会，生动地描绘了当下独立电影导演的生存现状——资本和政府的夹缝中苟延残喘
WIT Studio可以改名TWAT Studio了，从国王排名开始搞的都是什么鸡掰。爱的战士这是写了剧本结果找不到然后随手拿了1989迪士尼小美人鱼的剧本交上去的吧。哪怕把钱花在credits里轮播的二三次元ppt都要好过什么鸡掰跑酷啊，另外广濑爱丽丝是真的吵。
无聊平庸到难以置信，难道真是网飞给的太多？！
网飞和IG合作真部部灾难，剧本差得一塌糊涂，浪费制作。
其实很想给四星，跑酷看起来很有意思，但是剧情不完整，那看起来就像光靠特效撑起来的电影一样了。最后主角跟着泡泡跑的那一段很像《若能与你共乘海浪之上》，然后主题的循环毁灭与新生又让我想起《伊苏8》里的陨涕日，所以诗和姐姐是远古的意志派来毁灭地球的吗？然后诗不小心爱上了人类男孩，导致和姐姐决裂最后选择和姐姐同归于尽地球也免于被毁灭的命运吗？
一星给制作，一星给音乐，还有一星是让评分不至于太惨😂
整部电影观感极佳，看完之后仍然意犹未尽，但回顾时就发现不少问题，想必这就是荒木导演的功力了。泽野弘之配乐大部分时候堪称神级，但比赛跑酷时人声部分十分出戏。剧本设定很棒，但感情线情感不够饱满，剧情线俗套，开拓世界观的支线如走马观花，只能说基本及格。画人物时偶尔画成樱兰高校的效果属实让人一言难尽。但瑕不掩瑜，构图极佳，色彩斑斓如艺术，动作丝滑，节奏完美，立意不俗。总分7.5/10
剧本这么烂最后还是把主角写死。老虚你真不做人。
又是最后泪流满面的动画。音乐真的很抢戏。动画而已啦不要那么较真...我觉得不错
有一种《天气之子》的感觉，但是请了那么多人拍一部新海诚风格的电影，为什么不直接请新海诚。单从观感来讲还是很不错的。虽然剧情不是全部，但没有剧情的动画和幻灯片有什么区别。
PYIFF 死亡没那么可怕，被死亡凌迟才可怕
全片基本上就剩下一个背景设定了，故事老套平淡的基本上可以忽略了，可惜制作了。
立意还是不错的，也很感人，老年题材也很少有人触及。但是整体制作还是有些粗糙的，整体故事也流于隔靴搔痒，还是可以继续打磨，是一个很值得期待的年轻导演。
