回顾了Aretha前半生的故事 不过本片后半段太过着重于描写其内心的迷失与在教会中找回信仰的过程 反而弱化了她作为黑人平权运动领袖人物等社会属性的描写
这些天才选手的传记在天才的表现方面都同样乏味，家庭的影响则比较普通。

作为馒头奶奶的传记电影，个人觉得有点失望。影片开头与结尾的呼应，展示出了主题：这位灵魂歌后的成就，都源自宗教信仰。她从小在教会演唱，培养了能力；家暴男自称心中有恶魔，也提醒女主心中也有恶魔；所有女主出事，都是背离了作为神父的父亲；戒酒是在母亲的灵魂，披着神圣光芒前来拯救；最后她回归宗教殿堂，演唱赞歌，达到心灵的救赎……但是，如此片面的将一切归结于宗教信仰，真的合适吗？同时馒头奶奶所处的时代，让她成为了女权与黑人平权的领军人物，也挑战了父权，她之后更是在事业上引领了不少歌后，这些成就却完全被一笔带过，有些甚至只在最后字幕出现一下，这真的合适吗？难道她一生的辉煌，都是宗教的产物？这就是个宗教宣传片吧。另外，詹妮弗·哈德森的演唱确实无法和馒头奶奶相比，因为她是在演唱音乐，馒头奶奶是在玩音乐。
