The story appears simple on the surface, but is revealed, especially after multiple viewings, as more multi-layered and textured than Cassavetes at his best. Ostensibly it concerns a 14-year old Catholic girl, Wynne (Agutter) growing up in this post-modern wasteland, who develops a crush on her much older adoptive brother (Marshall)- a crush which perversely deepens and grows into infatuation once she starts to believe he is the local sex killer. This is in itself an idea that makes you sit up and jolt, but as the narrative develops, it continues not necessarily along a linear path but in several confusing and fascinating directions: the family's history, (detailed effectively in chilling flashback during an improvised seance) is a chequered one, and has suffered at least one major relocation and upheaval in the last ten years. At the crux, however, it's the depiction of socialal changes that make I Start Counting so fascinating and elevate its language far beyond the confines of the standard horror film. The major subtext- that teenage girls were maturing more quickly than before, and developing full sexual and romantic appetites (even if in thought rather than deed) but were not possessed of enough discretion to make the right choices- was a step forward for a genre in which its young females had previously been portrayed as bimbo victims (Cover Girl Killer and The Night Caller spring to mind), but not one that all viewers would necessarily agree with. But most striking of all, and possibly the most enduring image which the viewer will take away with them, is of the masterful symbolism with which director Greene invests every shot. Every inch of the Kinch family's world- their house, their walls, their TV, Agutters underwear, bedroom furniture and toys, Sutcliffe's clothes, Marshalls van, the local Catholic church, their town centre, their record shop) - is painted a bright, scintillating white- a white which, by inference, is slowly becoming smudged and corrupted with the dirt of the outside world. White also symbolises, of course, purity and innocence (two qualities Catholic schoolgirls are supposed to hold dear), and it is into this world of innocence that the ever-present red bus (a symbol of violation and penetration), conducted by the lecherous yet similarly juvenile Simon Ward, makes regular journeys. The allegory is further expanded in one scene where Agutter believes she sees the Christ figure in church weeping blood: by the time we acknowledge it, its gone, but the seed has already been planted. Rarely in a genre production has the use of colour and background been so important or effective in creating a uniformity of mood. I Start Counting is as near-perfect an end to a decade as one could hope for, and exactly the kind of film people should be making now- which is, of course, exactly why they never will. 类型实验很会玩的导演。情色与恐怖画面穿插，并在某些关键场景高度重合，创造出讽刺的意味。仿古影像与暴力美学都可圈可点，不过节奏处理不佳，导致前半段过于缓慢，削弱和冲淡了后半段的紧张激烈感。性压抑的根源指向传统保守势力的洗脑，这种批判的角度值得肯定；不过衰老的话题却让人不太舒适……米娅·高斯一人分饰两角的演技最惊艳。

这是恐怖片嘛?这也算不上血浆片吧。除了玛丽莲唱歌那段好听点，这片讲的是个勾八，关爱老年人X生活?
影片看完居然觉得有些悲凉，那个不甘失去青春年华美好肉体的变态枯槁老妇，和那些趁着青春肆意挥霍的几个年轻人。剧本设定有些程式化，不过也算得上是一部合格的B级血浆片，多一星给Mia冷冷的颜。
这个片子要怎么说呢？首先低于预期，但枯燥剧情下的细节和彩蛋非常丰富，戏中戏只作为技巧使用，没有成为推进情节的关键原素，降低了紧张感和剧作紧密程度。跳轴用的也不高明，中场讨论的问题明明很有趣：如果摄影机是结界，开机之后做的一切事情都不受道德审判，你会怎么做？但电影中只看到AV摄影师对女朋友想做女优的双标，确没有在这条线进行深入讨论，很多的《闪灵》《惊魂记》《大白鲨》元素，女主角一饰二角，包括角色曲线的成长，全部浅尝辄止，花拳绣腿。这些是缺点，但也是特点。
真的还蛮惊喜的！人不管到几岁对欲望的渴望表现的也是很真实，另外OST也好听！
太棒了！近几年恐怖片烂作频出、导致许久未看这个类型的，不料抽起【X】观看被惊艳到了，即复古又有逼格，剪辑上也非常喜欢！想不到恐怖片可以这样拍！音乐也是好听，哪里可以买到原声大碟？
在同类型片里还算说得过去，总感觉老太太是欲求不满靠杀人来获取快感
小男孩一天到晚解构人类性行为就真的很让人疲劳。导演用猎奇的视角光明正大拍情色恐怖片，有种【哎我就是犯规我就是不要脸】的感觉。他知道观众会对什么厌恶和回避，也知道观众基于政治正确不敢把这些说出口。老年人需要sex，老年人也会想看电影吧，希望不会有倒霉老年人看到这个。三个女主角尤其是米亚高斯，确实让人垂涎，但她接这种片确实可惜。
一想到自己也会老去就很难过🥲 //之前还看了农场主的女儿们，可能是致敬？
诡异感十足，反高潮熟稔，致敬处遍地，交叉蒙太奇过瘾，自嘲解构拉满娱乐性，虽然第三幕破功了，但你还是可以相信A24！
比较老派的恐怖片风格，米娅分饰两角真没看出来。

看这个片名和海报没太大希望，纯粹冲着A24和性恐怖这几个虐头去的。结果挺惊喜的，竟然可以算最近好片了。70年代B级片腔调很足，虽然剧情本身套路，甚至是各种经典恐怖元素汇总，但就恐怖本身来说，剪辑和刺激后置加反转都蛮有新意滴，加上点到为止的性，杀戮和血腥镜头，吓人吓得很有水平。另外没想到恐怖B级片传统的剥削点在这部新片中还挺有深意，对女性的剥削变成女性性自由口号了，对老年人符号的剥削引申到衰老与青春的互镜，当然其中内涵各花入个眼，甚至会有人反感，同样点到为止。
