The story appears simple on the surface, but is revealed, especially after multiple viewings, as more multi-layered and textured than Cassavetes at his best. Ostensibly it concerns a 14-year old Catholic girl, Wynne (Agutter) growing up in this post-modern wasteland, who develops a crush on her much older adoptive brother (Marshall)- a crush which perversely deepens and grows into infatuation once she starts to believe he is the local sex killer. This is in itself an idea that makes you sit up and jolt, but as the narrative develops, it continues not necessarily along a linear path but in several confusing and fascinating directions: the family's history, (detailed effectively in chilling flashback during an improvised seance) is a chequered one, and has suffered at least one major relocation and upheaval in the last ten years. At the crux, however, it's the depiction of socialal changes that make I Start Counting so fascinating and elevate its language far beyond the confines of the standard horror film. The major subtext- that teenage girls were maturing more quickly than before, and developing full sexual and romantic appetites (even if in thought rather than deed) but were not possessed of enough discretion to make the right choices- was a step forward for a genre in which its young females had previously been portrayed as bimbo victims (Cover Girl Killer and The Night Caller spring to mind), but not one that all viewers would necessarily agree with. But most striking of all, and possibly the most enduring image which the viewer will take away with them, is of the masterful symbolism with which director Greene invests every shot. Every inch of the Kinch family's world- their house, their walls, their TV, Agutters underwear, bedroom furniture and toys, Sutcliffe's clothes, Marshalls van, the local Catholic church, their town centre, their record shop) - is painted a bright, scintillating white- a white which, by inference, is slowly becoming smudged and corrupted with the dirt of the outside world. White also symbolises, of course, purity and innocence (two qualities Catholic schoolgirls are supposed to hold dear), and it is into this world of innocence that the ever-present red bus (a symbol of violation and penetration), conducted by the lecherous yet similarly juvenile Simon Ward, makes regular journeys. The allegory is further expanded in one scene where Agutter believes she sees the Christ figure in church weeping blood: by the time we acknowledge it, its gone, but the seed has already been planted. Rarely in a genre production has the use of colour and background been so important or effective in creating a uniformity of mood. I Start Counting is as near-perfect an end to a decade as one could hope for, and exactly the kind of film people should be making now- which is, of course, exactly why they never will. 既有故事性又有娱乐性，各个人物都立得很饱满，毫无疑问给五星。从天书象征的privilege 到贪婪的官差、向往公正的民，再到皇的高高在上，每一场戏都很值得推敲，结合出品年代来看，立意实在大胆又先锋。最后要夸一夸修复团队，看完幕后才知道很多音轨是完全重制的，太用心了！！😭
珍奇的天书被锁在天庭石门之内，分明“天道无私，流传后世”，却被高束庋藏，不欲人知。

几乎每一帧都在我的审美点上——那仿佛出自《千里江上图》的山水场景，《清明上河图》的市井生活，生旦净末丑行当的人物，把“中国版普罗米修斯”盗书至人间的故事搬至大银幕。然而袁公的结局“戛然而止”，期待出续集。
这种风格的动画挺好的啊，现在怎么弃了，整的人不人鬼不鬼的
關於神靈與超自然力量的奇異想象，鮮明迷人的藝術特色，誇張靈動的造型色彩和動態，分明是中國的表現主義啊。
谁在差评，这不是很有趣吗？简单故事有趣说，就故事新颖程度也胜了现在大多数电影，90分钟很合理吧😄
以前的老中国动画非常具有中国古典的韵味，这种风格在90年代的时候已经渐渐消失了，现在的国产动画不是学日本就是学好莱坞。而且本片的人物形象鲜明，审美也还不错，可惜过于低幼化了。袁公就是中国版的普罗米修斯啊~
故事编排和美术设计都是一流，集隐喻反讽传统技艺于一体的优秀之作，结尾铿锵有力掷地有声，实乃国漫不可多得之经典。

又是女性觉醒的话题，一次意外绑架的发生加速女主对有钱丈夫的不满和控诉……如果没有绑匪的出现pua破日子还可以凑合过下去……希区柯克悬疑惊悚brilliant

做坏人的最心软，看似慷慨的人最自私。恩爱夫妻表面下是弱势一方独自承受的隐忍。你是个好人但你永远错失了回去的路。不演傻白甜的莉莉更鲜活，但网飞你花八位数买了个这破玩意到底是为了个啥？看完只有两个想法，一个是“就这？”，另一个也是“就这？”。

我想的是看到马克思的形象，袁公的脸是很适合的一个缩写，马克思的《资本论》就是工人阶级的救世天书，触犯统治阶级颜面的他只能落下个悲痛的离去下场，而早已看穿一切的马克思微笑夹杂讽刺地面对，上层建筑早已需要修改完善，天书方法却被压制不让生产，生产力和生产关系的冲突就在此刻！
反派的人设惊人地时髦，相当辛辣的讽刺喜剧。
书中自有黄金屋 and Matt’s house。
经典之经典。中国早期动画，美术品味与质量都秒杀现在哈日商业画法；而且，基于中国民间神话改编，故事性很强，充满玄幻氛围。即使现在重看，也觉趣味十足。
