During the US Civil War, Union POWs escape in a balloon and end up stranded on a South Pacific island, inhabited by giant plants and animals. In 1865, during the siege of Richmond, Virginia, the union soldiers POW Captain Harding, Neb and Herbert escape in a balloon during a storm with two confederate prisoners, Sergeant Pencroft and the journalist Spilett. The uncontrollable wind takes the balloon to a mysterious island in the South Pacific in the area of New Zealand. Captain Harding self-proclaims the leader of the group and they look for food; sooner they discover that they are stranded in an island. Further, they are attacked by a giant crab that becomes their first meal. Along the days, they build a shelter and finds that the island is inhabited by giant animals. A couple of days later, they find two castaways on the beach, the aristocratic Lady Mary Fairchild and her sexy niece Elena. Later they find a trunk with weapons and instruments like sextant and shelter with a journal of a man left alone in the island by pirates. When the pirate vessel arrives in the island, they are helped by Captain Nemo of the Nautilus, a submarine that had supposedly sunk in the coast of Mexico eight years ago. 蛮喜欢这种充满性张力的快节奏爱情小品，帅哥美女什么的最带感了。再次感叹傲慢与偏见真是爱情故事里永远的神，就算看一百次也不会腻。

腔调挺足的，调性一点点邪性，一点点古典，当然布列松啥的我我我还get不了。关键问题是这个故事我看不懂，是反战？反漂亮国？救赎？那这些和算牌和赌博又有啥关系？就男主一张冷脸西装革履的坐在赌桌前去拯救一个乱七八糟的小屁孩，我莫民的觉得这是bl场景~~~救命
二十年前拍这种婊里婊气的抓马剧情和人设还算个好片子
是赌片？公路片？新黑色电影？还是政治惊悚片？又是一部反类型的典范之作，将好莱坞的类型玩法与欧洲电影的心理叙事结合得恰到好处，对声音环境的塑造让人印象深刻，抛开明显可见的鱼眼镜头的声音处理不谈，单是酒吧的嘈杂与人物对白中的接应就足见功力，叙事中夹杂有很多耐人寻味的留白之处，也可以说是反高潮处理，比如公路之旅的结果如何，结尾复仇的处理等
保罗·施拉德新作，又一场救赎的幻灭。与[出租车司机][第一归正会]均以历经战争PTSD的孤绝男子为主角。奥斯卡·伊萨克演得恰到好处，与布列松的“模特”实而并不相同，这位与瑞士传说中民族英雄威廉·退尔同名的算牌天才始终散放着一种冷淡、神秘、既谦和清心又压抑暴戾的气场，而非被掏空所有情感的木头人。当然，本片与老布的多部电影确有相似之处——旁白使用和独自写日记（包含罪疚与神学追问）的场景契如[乡村牧师日记]，省略关键场景&杀戮时反高潮的画外空间运用似[钱]，探监时的两手相触收尾致敬[扒手]。1.66:1的日常窄画幅与梦魇中的VR/鱼眼宽银幕对比鲜明，凸显刑讯创伤给人带来张牙舞爪扭曲畸变的后遗症。迷离夜彩灯的旋转叠化段落非常绚幻。为所有家具包装捆绑上白布的仪式颇有象征性。这里的赌牌既精明克制，又是一种自我放逐。（8.3/10）
