The story appears simple on the surface, but is revealed, especially after multiple viewings, as more multi-layered and textured than Cassavetes at his best. Ostensibly it concerns a 14-year old Catholic girl, Wynne (Agutter) growing up in this post-modern wasteland, who develops a crush on her much older adoptive brother (Marshall)- a crush which perversely deepens and grows into infatuation once she starts to believe he is the local sex killer. This is in itself an idea that makes you sit up and jolt, but as the narrative develops, it continues not necessarily along a linear path but in several confusing and fascinating directions: the family's history, (detailed effectively in chilling flashback during an improvised seance) is a chequered one, and has suffered at least one major relocation and upheaval in the last ten years. At the crux, however, it's the depiction of socialal changes that make I Start Counting so fascinating and elevate its language far beyond the confines of the standard horror film. The major subtext- that teenage girls were maturing more quickly than before, and developing full sexual and romantic appetites (even if in thought rather than deed) but were not possessed of enough discretion to make the right choices- was a step forward for a genre in which its young females had previously been portrayed as bimbo victims (Cover Girl Killer and The Night Caller spring to mind), but not one that all viewers would necessarily agree with. But most striking of all, and possibly the most enduring image which the viewer will take away with them, is of the masterful symbolism with which director Greene invests every shot. Every inch of the Kinch family's world- their house, their walls, their TV, Agutters underwear, bedroom furniture and toys, Sutcliffe's clothes, Marshalls van, the local Catholic church, their town centre, their record shop) - is painted a bright, scintillating white- a white which, by inference, is slowly becoming smudged and corrupted with the dirt of the outside world. White also symbolises, of course, purity and innocence (two qualities Catholic schoolgirls are supposed to hold dear), and it is into this world of innocence that the ever-present red bus (a symbol of violation and penetration), conducted by the lecherous yet similarly juvenile Simon Ward, makes regular journeys. The allegory is further expanded in one scene where Agutter believes she sees the Christ figure in church weeping blood: by the time we acknowledge it, its gone, but the seed has already been planted. Rarely in a genre production has the use of colour and background been so important or effective in creating a uniformity of mood. I Start Counting is as near-perfect an end to a decade as one could hope for, and exactly the kind of film people should be making now- which is, of course, exactly why they never will. 除了印尼机械义肢变态改造博士的那个故事略显违和和游戏感外。各个故事都是传统的B级血浆片风格。特效也很给力。
2星全给那个守灵的故事，其他的一星都不想给，劝大家不要浪费时间
一如既往的低画质加限制级画面，不过前面几个故事基本都是旧元素，也就最后一个白人至上恐怖组织稍微应景。
真人版爱死机？值得四星。血腥场面太复古了，没意思。
个人最喜欢第三个改造人的故事，有点《硬核亨利》的感觉，但更加的肮脏，令人不适，第一视角看起来也很爽，整体故事也比较完整，画面cult感十足，导演不愧是印尼出名的cult神，同喜欢他在第二部里拍的邪教的那一篇章。

从VHS前三部曲爱上以至于无法自拔的我这些年把大大小小的伪纪录电影都看了个遍，虽然说各有千秋，但如果提到爽感和震撼程度排名第一的，那必然是VHS系列。等了这么多年，终于来到了第四部。这一部可以说是一个外传系列，故事也推移到了94年的复古纪录风格，印尼Timo导演的东南亚血浆风格让整部影片的爽感进入了一个其他伪纪录电影无可比拟的天堂...不够看不够看，期待还有续作！
伪纪录片的恐怖片其实讲真就属这个系列比较出彩，不过这一部恐怖倒也还好，血腥的冲击感也不是很强 。想找一部恐惧感和血腥度俱佳的片子实在是太不容易了。
以为到第四部会差了，没想到挺惊喜的。主线是一群特种兵进入一个邪教场所，里头都是挖掉眼睛的教众。分线1下水道鼠人，属于比较常规的宗教传染；2殡仪馆死尸复活，这个故事比较刺激，特别当男的头掉下来，我还想不要睁眼啊，果然眼睛看到身体就来抓女主了；3类似人体蜈蚣的科学怪人用人做机器人，是我最喜欢的一个故事，导演是之前那个印尼导演，难怪了，猎奇血腥温情，全部具备；4是美国清洗+吸血鬼，最无感。看评论才理解了电影命名为94的意思。

第一个故事最佳，很好地展示了伪纪录风格吸引人的地方，完整的故事背景和来自Rat Man的未知恐惧相得益彰，大大增强了剧情高潮带给人的观感刺激。三星。
照前几部差一点，不过我喜欢那个改造机器人故事，还是原来那个味道，可能差了点新意，三星吧，强烈推荐前两部
作为系列的第四部，依然无法达到第二部的辉煌。影片依然是伪纪录片风格，由五个故事拼接而成：第一个故事依然是主线故事，串联其他故事，结合了警察调查、疑似毒窝、网红的疯狂等元素，隐喻美国反警察的情绪，收尾有些潦草和无聊；第二个故事是都市传说，老鼠变异体和邪教献祭，隐喻了贫困阶级一直被忽视的问题；第三个故事的守灵，故事有些套路，但惊吓指数还行，结尾非常拉胯；第四个故事是印尼导演完成，非常的血腥变态，又结合了现代科技元素，多视角展开，前期有些闷，越往后越劲爆，隐喻了对于女性的剥夺；第五个故事符合现在美国的那些保守主义红脖子，通过恐怖行动，要净化世界，最终因为自己的愚蠢，导致团灭，有些黑色幽默元素。整体看下来比较邪典，也都有相应隐喻，但还是有点一般。
